In this episode, we chill with symphonic metal band, Age of Sinfonia after the Saving Gaia gig at The Arts House. Honing their craft to recreate and further develop the unique genre in our metal scene, the band draws ideas from symphonic and classical music, and share their great love for Finnish/Swedish metal band, Nightwish!

The second of our four-part coverage of the recent Saving Gaia gig at the Arts House Playden sees plenty of fist-pumping and “oi” chanting as we envelop ourselves in the sights and sounds of the event proper.

In this episode, we caught bits of symphonic metal band, Age of Sinfonia, melodeath band, E-thereal and as sweetener, an all-star collective of members from the various performing bands playing a kickass rendition of a familiar song.

Conceptualized in late 2010, Pleasantry feeds on eclectic music cultures for inspiration.

The quintet’s diversified musical interests and knowledge have influenced the manifestation of resounding tones, strung harmoniously with the use of various instruments such as the ukulele and melodica.

Pleasantry draws inspiration from dreamed-up scenarios based on real-life scripts.

Formed in 2006 by Mathew Thomas and Jason Ng along with drummer Rashid Said, Dulcinea is the name of a character in Miguel De Cervantes’ novel Don Quixote. In the book, the central character Don Quixote goes in search of a woman he believes to be the most beautiful woman in the world and this search triggers a series of adventures and tribulations. In this spirit, Dulcinea’s music are a search for something beautiful. It is a journey filled with reflection, expression and imagination.

Homegrown death metal band, Oshiego, have gone through various line-up changes yet their signature sound – a combination of the melodic elements and crushing brutality – continues to ring in our ears. The band is well-known and well-respected in the metal scene but their call for unity and passion to keep on growing is one to be admired.

Staying true to their Singaporean ethics, they play a variation of songs influence by daily undertakings in their “not so – angst teenage life”. “We just want to tickle some senses playing up-beat guitar riffs you can move to alongside comically random lyrics.” quote the front-man.

Emerging from the dark, edgy and notorious HDB void decks, they call themselves The Zozi. The foursome is Afiq, Syak, Wan Taugay and Nazozi. These homegrown underground musicians have yet to discover the world with an exclusive flavor of local music when they involve food and contradicting issues in their songs.

Meet Sourgrudge, an alternative rock band from Singapore. Formed in 2010, Sourgrudge has been actively writing songs and performing at gigs. ‘MANIS’ is one of their latest original song recorded at ‘The End of Recordings’ studio.

In the quest to maintain in their confidence in music and perception of the masses, Sourgrudge conveys positive originality of their music targeting to every individual one, through the universal language of music.

A trio band consisting of Zul, Handre and Rizal, coming from various backgrounds found strong chemistry within themselves and Sourgrudge was formed in late 2010. Throughout the journey in Sourgrudge they have played in gigs and invited to do an opening for a video launching of a local band. Playing covers from all genre 70’s to the recent sound they wanted to do more, a personal satisfaction, something to call their own.

Concurrently they are in the mid of working on their very own single, MANIS.

SubsceneTV features ‘Nazihah & The Panda Pounce’! An acoustic/folk band consists of 4 members; Nazihah (rhythm guitar, vocals), Asyraf (percussions), Jalee (lead guitar) & Sani (bass). Having started singing and songwriting at a very young age, ‘Nazihah & The Panda Pounce’ has undoubtedly produced enjoyable ‘sing-along’ songs.

This talented young band hopes to see more youths getting into songwriting and producing original music.

Formed in 2006, Deona Cart Deluna consist of Ash (vox), Mbai (guitar), Eky (guitar), Jun (bass) and Iman (drummer). Having performed abroad, Deona Cart Deluna or DCD in short, has gained stage presence namely, in Batam Indonesia.

They are set to release their first album at the end of this year.
